Can cats eat white rice when they have diarrhea?
A little, yes. As a treatment, it is overrated. Dogs get rice-and-chicken sheets from clinics all the time. Cats are obligate carnivores. Their guts want meat. A bowl of rice can sit there while the cat stares at you.

Cook rice extra soft: 1 cup water to 1/3 cup rice, 18–20 minutes, no salt. Cool to about 70°F. Sticky clumps are easier than al dente grains that a cat will spit onto the rug.
Why might rice fail a cat with diarrhea?
Cats dehydrate. A 9-pound cat does not have a Labrador’s reserve. Three watery stools in 8 hours can matter. Rice does not replace water. It also does not treat giardia, a food binge, or a sudden diet switch from a $22 bag to a $31 bag.

Is pumpkin better than rice for cats?
A 1/2 teaspoon of plain canned pumpkin (not pie filling) is sometimes used for mild constipation. For diarrhea, extra fiber can go either way. Do not stack pumpkin, rice, and probiotic paste on hour one. Pick one change. Log it.
Prescription GI wet food often beats kitchen starch. If Puddle’s clinic had a recovery diet in stock for $4–$6 a can, Javier would have bought two cans and left the rice for human leftovers.
